Professor Catherine Gachutha

Clinical Psychologist | Marriage & Family Therapist | Director, KIBCo | Chair, Association of Counselling and Psychologists – Kenya

We are honoured to welcome Professor Catherine Gachutha as the Chief Guest at our 24th Graduation Ceremony. A clinical psychologist and marriage and family therapist, she exemplifies resilience and transformation. As the Director of the Kenya Institute of Business and Counselling Studies (KIBCo), Prof. Catherine leads an institution renowned for counselling psychology and mental health support. Her dedication stems from personal experiences with marital conflict and her father's alcoholism. She founded her first rehabilitation centre by age 28, established KIBCo in 2004, and launched Maranatha Restoration Homes (MRH) in 2020.

Prof. Catherine holds a Higher Diploma in Psychological Counselling, a Master’s from Durham University, a PhD from the University of South Africa, and is pursuing a second PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy at PAC University. A former Chairperson of the Kenya Counselling and Psychological Association (KCPA), she has influenced national standards and authored a handbook on counsellor burnout. Her work empowers individuals and restores families, embodying her message: “Your past does not define your future. Pain can birth purpose.”
